Well, it's the 60th anniversary for Topps baseball cards, and this year's set has quite a few similarities to the 2010 set (click "2010 set" to get to my eBay listing for the base set singles). While I was a little under whelmed at the repeat features of this year's set like the Diamond Giveaway (just another version of the Million Card Giveaway), the 60 Years of Topps insert set (just like the Cards Your Mom Threw Out), and the Diamond Duos (just like the Legendary Lineage), I am still impressed with the overall look of the cards. The border design style and sharp photos for the cards look great, and the other insert sets also seem pretty good. A particular stand out for this year is the Diamond Stars insert set. The displaced photo of the player on the blue background with the diamond like effect give this set a nice, glittery look. Also, it appears that the code cards for ToppsTown has been scaled back especially in the Series 2 packs. This is particularly refreshing since last year I was pulling a ToppsTown code card in about every other pack.
One thing that is a concern is the Prime 9 redemption cards. These cards can be redeemed at your local HTA store every week starting July 18th. While the check list for this set is still a bit unknown, I'm wondering if it's worth a lengthy drive for collectors who are not close to a HTA store like myself. It does not appear to be any sort of mail in or online redemption.
Anyway, those out there chasing down singles and inserts from the 2011 Topps Baseball Card Set can find plenty available in my one-stop shop listings:
- 2011 Base Set Singles 4 for $1.00:
- 2011 Insert Singles prices vary, but most under $1.00:
